About Northeast Fellowship
Our Beliefs
At Northeast Fellowship, our foundation is rooted in Scripture, which we hold as the authoritative Word of God. Below, you'll find our beliefs on key doctrinal matters. We are a Southern Baptist church and we adhere to the Baptist Faith and Message.
Outlined in the BF&M, these core principles are essential for those considering membership at Northeast Fellowship:
-
We believe that God is the creator and sustainer of all things. He is of Himself, uncreated, and is eternally existent. He has created all things for the purpose of glorifying Himself.
God exists as one God in three co-equal, co-eternal persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that God the Father is the first person of the trinity. He is unbegotten and He creates, sustains, and authors all things. (Hebrews 1:10, 1 Corinthians 8:6a)The Father is the ultimate source or cause of the universe (1 Corinthians 8:6; Revelation 4:11); divine revelation (Revelation 1:1); salvation (John 3:16-17); and Jesus’ human works (John 5:17; 14:10). The Father initiates all of these things.
-
We believe that God the Son is the second person of the Trinity. He is co-equal and co-eternal to God the Father. The Son is eternally begotten by the Father. We believe the Son is the Word of God and is the Redeemer of all creation. (John 1:1, 1 Corinthians 8:6b)
The Son accomplishes the plans of the Father: creation, redemption, salvation, and sanctification. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
We believe that God the Son became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ to accomplish salvation for all peoples and to reconcile those peoples back to the Father. (John 1:14-18)
-
We believe that God the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. The Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son from all eternity. The Spirit effectuates the work of the Son and acts according to the will of the Father. (Romans 8:26-27)
The Spirit draws men’s hearts, convicts them of sin, brings correction to the Church, and testifies concerning the truth of Christ Jesus. (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)
-
We believe that man was created specially by God. God created all things yet He created man “in His image.” God created mankind male and female. Man was created in the image and likeness of God to reflect and spread His glory across the whole earth. Because of this truth, every person is of co-equal dignity and value before God.
Man was created free from sin but because of the sin of Adam and Eve, man became slave to sin, became corrupted, and took on a sin nature. Because of man’s sinful nature, mankind is no longer in right standing before God, is deserving of death, and is, therefore, in need of reconciliation.(Romans 3:23, Genesis 3:6, Psalm 51:5, Romans 5:12, 1 John 1:8)
-
But God, because of the great love He has for His creation, and because of the passion for His glory, He desires to rescue a people for his own possession. To accomplish the salvation of sinners, a sacrifice must be made (Romans 6:23). To accomplish Salvation, Christ Jesus came down, took on flesh, lived a sinless life, fulfilled the law that we could not, and died the death that we deserved. However, because of His sinlessness, death had no power over Him, so on the third day, He rose again defeating sin and death.
Therefore, Christ has secured redemption for those who place their faith in Him and in His work. The Scripture’s are clear, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
(John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Exodus 34:6-7)

The Church are those peoples who have placed their faith in Christ Jesus, from every tribe tongue and nation. We are all united in Christ’s death and will all partake in His resurrection when he returns finally to establish the New Heavens and the New Earth.
There is the Church visible and the Church invisible. The Church Visible is composed of local congregations all across the globe who are ambassadors for Christ Jesus, who partake in the Lord’s Supper, and have been baptized into a church.
The Church Invisible is all of those whom Christ has taken out the heart of stone and given the heart of flesh. This cannot be known by man, because man only sees the outside, but God sees within and knows all of those who are His. All those who have been saved are a part of the Church Invisible, though belong to each local (Church Visible) congregation/church.
All members of the Church are filled with the Holy Spirit and are being sanctified by the power of the Spirit, because of the sacrifice of Christ. We are the presence of Christ here on earth and, therefore, we all represent Christ here on earth and are ambassadors for God wherever we live, work, or play.
(1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Galatians 3:28, Ephesians 4:1-6, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 1 Peter 2:5)

The Bible was written by human authors each under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. All Scripture is “breathed out” by God and is used for the purpose of revealing God, hearing God speak, and learning of the truth of Christ Jesus and the salvation that is found in Him.
All of Scripture is inerrant and inspired. Therefore, it is our sole authority on the earth and the primary way by which God speaks to us.
The Bible and its teaching are to be central in the teaching/practice of the local church.
(2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 4:4, Ephesians 6:17, Psalm 119:105, Matthew 24:35)
Communion
At Northeast Fellowship, we practice the ordinance of The Lord’s Supper on a weekly basis. Believers are commanded to partake in the Lord’s Supper in order “to proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).
We believe that the bread represents the body of Christ that was broken on our behalf. Similarly, the cup represents the blood of Christ that was spilled to secure redemption and establish a new covenant for all believers.
The bread and cup are not the literal body and blood of Christ, but rather physical reminders of a spiritual reality. Communion is a means of grace, by which the we can draw closer to God in worship and remembrance of Him and the sacrifice of Jesus.
(Matthew 26:26-28, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Baptism
We also practice the ordinance of baptism. We believe that baptism is for those who have placed their faith in Christ Jesus, and in Him alone. Baptism is not for the children of believing parents, but only for those who have professed faith in Christ Jesus.
Baptism is symbolic of the baptism by the Holy Spirit, the inward regeneration of the believer. It represents being buried to our old selves and raised to walk in a new life with Christ.
While closely tied with and related to salvation in Scripture, baptism is not required for salvation. Baptism is an act of obedience every believer must take after having placed faith in Christ Jesus.
(Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12)
